The Department of Kinesiology at The University of Rhode Island invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor position starting in the 2024-25 academic year.
The Kinesiology Program at the University of Rhode Island invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor from outstanding individuals with demonstrated teaching excellence in kinesiology/exercise science with an emphasis in the areas of clinical exercise physiology and/or strength and conditioning. URI’s Kinesiology Department (https://web.uri.edu/kinesiology ) has >550 undergraduate students and ~25 graduate students and is located within the College of Health Sciences (https://web.uri.edu/chs ).
Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to successfully engage diverse students by teaching face-to-face and hybrid format courses using a variety of innovative pedagogical approaches. The candidate will also contribute to service to the department, college, and university through serving on committees and other types of appropriate service.
Qualifications

Required:

1. Earned Master’s degree in Kinesiology or a closely related field conferred by September 1, 2024.
2. Demonstrated independent teaching excellence at the university level in Kinesiology or Exercise Science.
3. Demonstrated excellence in written communication skills.
4. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
5. Demonstrated evidence working with diverse groups/populations (not limited to race, ethnicity, and gender).
Preferred:

1. Doctoral degree in Kinesiology or a closely related field.
2. Demonstrated ability to teach a breadth of courses in URI’s Kinesiology Department.
3. Experience with advising and student mentoring.
4. Clinical and/or work experience in exercise physiology and/or strength and conditioning.
5. Certification by a nationally or internationally recognized organization such as ACSM, NSCA, or AACVPR.
