JOB SUMMARY:

The department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Adelphi University invites applications for one full-time, non-tenure track three-year term faculty position as Assistant Teaching Professor, to start January 1, 2024. We seek candidates with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching computer science.


The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in our undergraduate Bachelor of Computer Science program and/or in our graduate Master of Computer Science program.

 

The successful candidate will be committed to fostering diversity and inclusion while teaching a diverse student body. We are seeking candidates who have a strong commitment to teaching students from diverse cultural backgrounds and who have experience with a variety of teaching methods.

 

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is interested in further strengthening the diversity of its faculty and is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment. 


RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Teach 24 credits annually (3-4 courses per semester). When possible, we strive to reduce course preparation efforts by assigning multiple sections of a class to the same instructor, and to assign the same classes on a recurring basis.

2. Contribute to student growth and development through active involvement in student related activities (e.g., advising, working with student organizations)

3. Provide service to the university.


QUALIFICATIONS:


1. A terminal degree in Computer Science or related field; or a Master's degree with extensive professional experience in a relevant field is required Candidates with a degree in computer science or closely related discipline, will receive preferential consideration. Candidates with a a terminal degree in a non-computing field of study, but with relevant prior experience will also be considered.

2. Familiarity with our graduate and undergraduate departmental curricular initiatives in computer science is strongly preferred.

SALARY INFORMATION

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $85,000 - $90,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
