The Department of Chemistry has an international reputation for excellence in research across a broad array of disciplines, including analytical, biological, inorganic, organic, materials and physical chemistry. Position Summary
This position will contribute to the teaching and service mission of the Department of Chemistry at Colorado State University through a range of activities. The major commitment will be teaching undergraduate courses or supervising laboratory instruction as appropriate to the individual’s background and the needs of the department. This position will play a significant role towards the growth and improvement of our undergraduate chemistry program and the building of a strong teaching/learning culture in the department, with interest and ability to contribute to our general chemistry course curriculum.

Required Job Qualifications
  • PhD or equivalent degree in chemistry, chemistry/science education or closely related field.
  • Effective written and oral communications skills.
  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.A. by the proposed start date; the department is willing to sponsor a visa for this position.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Experience teaching undergraduate level chemistry lectures at the college or university level as the instructor of record.
  • Experience in managing and developing chemistry course curriculum in general chemistry.
  • Experience with developing learning support materials, such as recitation or supplemental instruction, for general chemistry courses.
  • Experience in or willingness to participate in team teaching environments
  • Experience teaching in various platforms and environments – resident instruction, online and hybrid.
  • Interest in scholarship of teaching and learning in science education.

Essential Duties

Duty/Responsibility
  • Teach up to four sections of general chemistry courses during each academic year (as assigned by the Chair/Assoc. chair), including supervision of TAs for each course as assigned.
  • Teach in collaborative teams with other instructors.
  • Develop, introduce and maintain innovative and evidence-based methods in general chemistry curriculum and provide learning-support activities for students,
  • Demonstrate interest in improving teaching and learning in the department through other activities. These can include but are not limited to activities such as improving methods for chemistry instruction; mentoring undergraduate students in outreach activities; developing new lecture demonstrations; developing and revising peer evaluation tools.
