Position Summary
The purpose of the position is to coordinate the undergraduate organic chemistry laboratories in the Department of Chemistry at Colorado State University. The individual will be responsible for independently developing curriculum for the courses, developing implementation and training plans for students, managing chemical safety within the teaching laboratories and training and supervising student and non-student employees.

Required Job Qualifications
Ph.D. in Chemistry or closely related field.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Experience in managing and developing undergraduate chemistry laboratory courses.
  • 1+ years experience coordinating, training and mentoring student staff and graduate teaching assistants in an organic chemistry teaching lab environment
  • At least one year of experience with chemical purchasing programs, Kuali and Jaggaer Shop Catalogs preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading undergraduate organic teaching labs in both an on-campus and virtual setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, training, management and instruction of undergraduate organic lab course curriculum.
    • Demonstrated development of new organic lab courses.

Essential Duties


Job Duty Category Teaching & Curriculum Development
Duty/Responsibility
  • Oversee the undergraduate organic chemistry lab curriculum, including course development, experiment selection, online content, and final grade assignment. 
  • Oversee the purchase and maintenance of instrumentation used in the undergraduate organic laboratories, in addition to training teaching assistants to use the instruments.
  • Coordinate organic lab TA assignments and schedules, including proctoring, grading, and office hours.
  • Prepare internal proposals and collaborate on external proposal for relevant organic chemistry lab funding mechanisms. 
  • Manage ordering logistics of supplies and equipment for the organic chemistry laboratories, including collaborating with.
  • Department accounting staff to implement current electronic purchasing and accounting protocols.
  • Oversee and coordinate the hiring process and operational structure for student and support staff in the organic chemistry prep room.
