Location | Bloomington |
Position Summary | Position Summary: The Department of Chemistry at Indiana University Bloomington is seeking to appoint a full-time manager of the METACyt Biomolecular NMR Laboratory at the rank of non-tenure track assistant research scientist. The METACyt laboratory is part of the campus-wide NMR facility that houses a 600 MHz Bruker AVANCE NEO spectrometer (installed 2018) equipped with triple-resonance probes and cryogenic technology, and will install a new cryoprobe-equipped 800 MHz Bruker AVANCE NEO hybrid spectrometer with solids capabilities in the coming year. Both instruments will be integrated into a campus helium recovery system to come on-line in early 2024. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring operational status; performing cryogen fills; troubleshooting spectrometers, keeping instrumentation, software and performance records up to date; maintaining checklists/protocols for safe use of the system by different users; training new users in the general operation of the instruments; assisting experienced users in the collection, processing and analysis of multidimensional experiments; and contributing to grant proposals that support the facility. In addition, this individual would be expected to plan, design and implement collaborative NMR projects for the broader research community. There is an option for time to be committed to developing an independent research program, if desired. |
Basic Qualifications | Desired Attributes and Skills: Candidates should be highly motivated, collaborative, and open to developing both collaborative and independent research directions. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in isotopically-labeled protein expression and sample preparation, structural biology, and sufficient NMR hardware and software experience to implement and optimize new pulse sequences using Topspin. Minimum Qualifications: Experience with the analysis and interpretation of multidimensional NMR data analysis is expected. A doctoral degree in chemistry, biophysics or a related field with several years postdoctoral experience in biomolecular NMR is required. Prior experience in maintaining NMR spectrometers is preferred but not required. |
