The Assistant Research Scientist, under general supervision, will work with Dr. Hongcai Zhou with the Chemistry Department and the Texas A&M Energy Institute on research and development related to the process scale-up, techno-economic, and cost analysis of adsorption-based direct air capture of carbon dioxide using porous chemical sorbents, especially porous polymer networks (PPNs). Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent analytical, quantitative, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate research findings to technically diverse researchers
  • Ability to analyze and disseminate data results in manuscripts, reports, and presentations
  • Ability to maintain laboratory instrumentation and follow applicable safety standards

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field with focus on adsorption-based direct air capture of CO2 using porous chemical sorbents
  • Proven track record of excellence in written communication demonstrated by the candidate’s journal publications in top journals related to adsorption of CO2 in porous chemical sorbents
  • Experience in chemical synthesis, X-ray crystallography, and MOFs-based materials as catalysts for energy and sustainability

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to cultivate and maintain professional working relationships with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Highly organized, responsible individual with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to take initiative and drive the research within project goals
  • Ability to design and establish platforms for research and train young students in related fields
  • Knowledge of principles for materials chemistry and chemical engineering

Responsibilities:

  • Data Analysis and Research - Manages and analyzes data gathered for research projects. Plans and executes research directions within project goals. Participates in group meetings and seminars for research enhancement.
  • Project Management - Coordinates and manages tasks and timelines associated with research projects. Provides advice to other staff and students. Meets with project partners regularly to drive research forward. 
  • Writing and Documentation - Writes and reviews manuscripts, abstracts, and reports related to the research projects. Maintains complete records of research findings. Writes and submits grant proposals with the PI’s assistance. Prepares data for presentation at scientific meetings and for manuscripts and grant proposals. Travels to scientific meetings for oral and/or poster presentations. Other duties as assigned.
