What We Want:

TIGSS is seeking an Assistant Research Scientist who be responsible for assisting in developing the Rodent Phenotyping Shared Resource to support investigators across the Texas A&M University campus.  We seek to hire a candidate who will support our commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accountability (IDEA) as stated above. The preferred candidate will have a PhD or terminal degree (e.g., DVM, MD), with postdoctoral experience working with rodent models of human disease, will be skilled in surgical techniques on rodents, and have experience maintaining rodent colonies and collecting phenotypic measurements. Required Education and Experience:

  • A PhD or terminal degree (e.g., DVM, MD)

  • Postdoctoral experience working with rodent models of human disease

  • Experience maintaining rodent colonies and collecting phenotypic measurements

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Skilled in surgical techniques on rodents

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and phenotyping rodent models using a variety of modalities and other scholarly endeavors; training researchers and assisting with research projects using the phenotyping shared resource; contributing to and submitting appropriate resource grants for expanding the shared resource, and participating on peer-reviewed grants as a co-investigator and on publications when an appropriate contribution is made by the incumbent.

  • Preparing and maintaining appropriate IACUC animal protocols, developing a web portal describing services and equipment, working with CMP staff to develop a user fee structure.

  • Participating in departmental, college or university committees, as appropriate.

  • Mentoring, as assigned, for professional students, residents, and/or graduate students; serving on graduate students’ committees or as guest lecturer.
