The Department of Chemistry, University of South Florida, invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure earning visiting research faculty position in the broadly defined area of cancer research at the Assistant Research Professor level. The successful candidate will work in Dr. Mildred Acevedo-Duncan’s laboratory. The position will remain open until filled. Acevedo-Duncan’s research projects focus on atypical protein kinase C involvement in different types of cancer, drug discovery, and development from basic research to translational research. For this position, expertise is required in the specific area of cancer biochemistry, cancer metabolism, cancer genetics, cancer cell biology, tumor microenvironment, mechanisms of therapy resistance, metastasis, oncogenic signal transduction pathways, genome integrity. Position is open until 04/19/2024.

This is a 1-year visiting position, with a start date of 05/22/2024 Salary is $70,000.00. Contingent on continued approval/funding, this position may be renewed for a second or third year.
 

DUTIES:

Outstanding candidates with a strong commitment to establishing a cutting-edge research program in cancer biochemistry to address fundamental questions in cancer biochemistry, biology, and medicine are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and researchers from diverse backgrounds. New faculty will mainly work with Dr. Mildred Acevedo-Duncan and join a multidisciplinary and collaborative research environment to complement strengths in chemistry, biochemistry, cancer biology, organic/medicinal chemistry, and drug discovery & development within the Department of Chemistry, University of South Florida.

The candidate will mainly work on three ongoing projects that investigate the role of aPKCs in prostate bone metastasis, the Molecular adaptor role of 14-3-3 and Smad2/3 in PKC signaling pathways, and PKC-zeta self-regulation in melanoma. In addition, the candidate will supervise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and contribute to the research programs. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct a vigorous program of original research at a world-class level. The ideal candidate is expected to build a robust research program to generate new insights into compelling problems in Cancer Research.

 

QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in a relevant field, postdoctoral experience in cancer research, a commitment to excellence in research, and a track record of scholarly research including peer reviewed publications. Individuals with a strong interest in team science are encouraged to apply. Must meet university criteria for appointment which is equivalent to that required of the rank of Assistant Professor.
