JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The laboratory of Professor Philip Bevilacqua in the Chemistry department at the Pennsylvania State University seeks to fill an Assistant Research Professor position in his RNA Chemistry and Biology research group. In this appointment the selected candidate will report to Dr. Philip C. Bevilacqua and will be collaborating on several of the projects in his research group. Joint research to include those focusing on RNA structure in vivo during stress in several model organism. The candidate will grow organisms, apply stresses, treat with RNA modifying chemicals, prepare libraries, and analyze next gen sequencing data. They will also publish results and help write manuscripts and proposals. A strong background in RNA molecular biology, analysis of data, and working with undergraduates is essential. Candidate will be responsible for laboratory maintenance and assist with purchasing. A successful candidate will have obtained a Ph.D. degree and will show evidence of exceptional accomplishments in one or more area of chemistry, biochemistry, or molecular biology research. Preferred areas of expertise include RNA thermodynamics, RNA structural biology, and bioinformatics. Interested and qualified applicants should submit applications electronically and include a CV which includes a list of publications, a cover letter describing background, prior training and interests. Following a screening of these initial application materials, appropriate candidates will be contacted by email and asked to arrange for letters of recommendation to be sent so that they might be considered further. Initial appointment is funded for one year from the date of hire with a possibility of re-funding.
