Position Highlights

The Center for Applied Transportation Sciences (CATS) in the College of Engineering seeks to hire a qualified and ambitious assistant research professor with a tentative start date in Spring 2024. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible research-focused faculty position on the career track. The ideal applicant is expected to be an experienced researcher capable of writing grant proposals and conducting/leading projects in multiple research areas, including but not limited to intelligent transportation systems, transportation planning, smart mobility, big data analytics, large-scale transportation system simulation and analysis, transportation safety analysis, and/or traffic operations. The candidate will also work with the center manager in day-to-day CATS activities with minor teaching duties in the classroom and in workshops.

The College is especially interested in individuals who can contribute to the excellence and diversity of our teaching and research efforts.

This fiscal non-tenure-track position offers the opportunity to focus and gain experience in research, teaching, and leadership activities.

CATS is a college-level research center established at the University of Arizona (UArizona) founded in 2021. CATS' mission is to serve as a research, training, and capacity-building resource for regional governments, educational institutions, and private sectors in the field of Smart Communities. The research areas include but are not limited to Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO), transportation system performance management, and Mobility on Demand (MOD).

Duties & Responsibilities Research
  • Manage sponsored research projects by serving as a Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI on research projects.
  • Conduct research, perform experiments, analyze data with graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate research assistants. 
  • Outreach activities, including but not limited to presenting the research outcomes at local and national conferences.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and submit grant proposals/scope of work to acquire research funding  

Teaching

  • Classroom and workshop teaching.

Supporting CATS Center Activities

  • Manage CATS IT team to develop and maintain center IT infrastructure.
  • Support CATS Center manager/directors to coordinate meetings, seminars, and workshops.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

Advanced database and computer programming skills, including database management and coding in multiple computer languages, e.g. R and C#.

Minimum Qualifications Ph.D. degree in civil engineering or related field.
