Job Summary
The Assistant Registrar for Technology and IT Liaison is a member of a team within the Office of the Registrar, supporting the office’s mission to create, maintain, protect, and analyze academic data and the academic records of current and former Bowdoin students. This position provides expertise in both technical and functional requirements of the Registrar’s Office, and helps to maintain several key systems. The position is responsible for liaising with IT and ensuring that the tools and services delivered by IT meet the needs of the Registrar’s Office and support the policies of the College. This position also supports reporting in the Office of the Registrar; the incumbent will extract, gather, summarize, and analyze academic data for reporting within the office and for stakeholders within the college.
Education/Skills Requirements
Required Education/Skills: Bachelor’s degree. Excellent organizational skills, customer service skills, and exceptional oral and written communication skills. Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical challenges; to understand business processes and creatively use technology to improve them. Capacity to interpret and explain complex technical issues and needs to non-technical audiences, and functional practices to a highly technical audience. Capability to project manage. Ability to interpret, analyze, and summarize data into management reports tailored to specific audiences. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. This position has the potential of being hybrid.
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
Required experience: A minimum of three years’ experience managing complex data systems. Experience with complex software such as Banner Student, Canvas, Courseleaf, Qualtrics, SQL and/or PL/SQL, Workday. Advanced Excel and Word skills, as well as experience with Office 365.
Preferred experience: Experience in a higher education environment. Experience with databases and managing communications between technical and non-technical audiences. Experience developing reports and knowledge of reporting and analytical tools such as Tableau and Cognos.
Standard Work Days and Hours
Typical hours are 8:30 – 5:00 Monday – Friday. Some evenings/weekends may be required. This is an exempt position requiring time commitment necessary to satisfactorily complete job requirements.
