Working in District 1 (Ferry, Stevens, and Pend Oreille counties) you will also work on wildlife species investigations and provide operational management for human/wildlife interactions region wide. Duties Assistant Regional Wildlife Program Manager- WMS Band 2 - Permanent -*2022-14107 description image Elk in the Blue Mountains of southeast Washington-Credit- Public- Antony Sirgedas Our Assistant Regional Wildlife Program Manager, Serves as Liaison and Policy Lead for emergent issues related to implementing WDFW policies or programs, including wildlife management, wildlife/human conflict, wolf, bear, and cougar management, and private lands access in their area of responsibility. Works closely with the Statewide Wolf Policy lead and Game Division to receive policy insight and provides guidance and direction to Wildlife Program staff regarding agency response to wildlife conflict events. Serves as the point Wildlife Program person with Enforcement Program in District 1 to ensure cross-program coordination in response and/or communication. Provides guidance, direction, and information to staff regarding Program/Agency policies, procedures, and direction in a clear and timely manner. Works with individual staff to provide guidance and direction regarding workload control and prioritization. Demonstrates inclusive leadership through collaboration, active listening skills and authentic team building. Conducts regular team meetings to communicate information and provides method(s) for timely communication in-between team meetings. Supports Agency policies and direction by answering questions and otherwise providing clarity for staff. Manages and coordinates staffing resources so the agency can appropriately respond to depredation events, including daily coverage during key times of year. Ensures a cohesive Wildlife Program response to depredation events. Coordinates with Enforcement Program staff at appropriate levels. Coordinates all wildlife biologists, conflict specialists, research scientists and technicians working in District 1, regardless of direct supervision or “dotted line” supervision status. Is responsible for interpreting and applying policies and elevates policy issues or questions to the RWPM, Regional Director, and/or Wildlife Program leadership as needed. Serves as the Wildlife Program lead for developing team recommendations in response to wolf/livestock depredations in region 1. Leads implementation of the D1 Culture Improvement Plan to build a strong culture based on Department values with the assistance and collaboration of Senior and Executive Management. This requires strong cross program coordination and partnership and is done through close coordination with District 1 staff from all Programs as well as Wildlife Program staff working in District 1. Provides wildlife information to public and private entities. Making presentations to sports, civic, environmental, volunteer, and landowner organizations in addition to internal groups. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work Setting, including hazards: Primarily office work. Occasional field work (trips and falls as well as exposure to wild and/or domestic animals) Schedule (i.e., hours and days): Work hours are flexible, but are expected to occur between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The incumbent may be expected to adjust the work schedule to meet business needs. Attending occasional nighttime meetings will be required. At times, additional hours will be needed to accomplish tasks. Travel Requirements: 30%. Will require travel throughout District 1 and occasionally throughout Region One. Note: The incumbent will be required to report to the Colville, WA. Office at least two times per week. Tools and Equipment: Duties require the use of standard office furniture and equipment (e.g., desk, filing cabinet, computer, printer, etc.) and a vehicle that is provided. Infrequently, duties may include being involved with depredation investigations which require using hand tools (e.g., knives, winches).
Qualifications
Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's degree in fisheries, wildlife management, natural resource science, or environmental science AND Five years of professional experience in wildlife management or wildlife research, habitat management or habitat research, or fish management or fish research. OR A Master’s degree in the applicable science will substitute for one year of the required experience. A Ph.D. in the applicable science will substitute for two years of the required experience. AND Demonstrated ability to build rapport, partner, and work collaboratively with the public, tribes, and local, state, and federal agencies Please note : Professional Experience may substitute year for year for the education requirement. A valid, unrestricted (other than visual aid) Washington or other State Driver’s License. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of wildlife and ecological processes pertinent to the Northwest ·Knowledge of cougar, bear, and wolf management in the western United States ·Demonstrated organization and time management skills to effectively prioritize workload and maximize efficiency ·Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with members of the public with diverse opinions and backgrounds CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: On August 9, 2021 Gov.
