The Mansfield Center Administration invites applications for three (3) Assistant Project Manager positions to join them in fostering globally minded leaders of integrity through a variety of international and domestic civic engagement programs.

The Assistant Project Manager is a multi-faceted role at the Mansfield Center, ensuring that programs run smoothly, with high impact for participants as well as the many external partners involved in the programs. Assistant Project Managers work on a diversity of international and domestic civic engagement programs. This position provides direct support to participants and program officers, and serves as a liaison between external partners, community members, and UM colleagues. The position requires a strong communication skillset as well as detail-oriented logistics management.

The primary focus of the position is supporting the planning, implementation, and conclusion of international and domestic programs that serve over 500 participants each year. This position organizes and troubleshoots program logistics, program activities and events, and manages program procedures to ensure successful program implementation.

Communicates and coordinates democracy activities (in-person and virtual):

  • Organizes and attends events to promote the Center and its programs.
  • Runs logistics for participants and visitors, as well as manages technology for virtual programming.
  • Communicates and coordinates with program participants and partners to successfully execute program activities.

Manages participant and program information

  • Manages a high volume of written and verbal communications regarding participant and program details.
  • Compiles all relevant and confidential information regarding participants, including medical and travel documents.
  • Negotiates and tracks contracted services, such as lodging and transportation.

Provides general program management and technical expertise

  • Supports participant programs, from beginning planning phases through reporting.
  • Ensures timely and effective customer service to faculty, staff, students, and community partners.
  • Supervises, trains, and supports student employees and interns.
  • Helps implement and ensure compliance with all federal grant award guidelines and UM policies and procedures.

Administrative Tasks

  • Assists with general office organization.
  • Assists the Executive Director with communication duties and other office and relational work.
  • Assists with human resource and budget management, and financial and payroll processes.

  • Ability and willingness to maintain accurate records and maintain strict confidentiality when working with proprietary information.
  • Demonstrated understanding of diversity and inclusion to support program participants with varied political beliefs and backgrounds. 
  • Skilled in Microsoft suite and basic office technology.
  • Ability to have a flexible schedule with non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends during peak program times.
  • Capacity to escort participant groups during moderate to strenuous outdoor activities, including but not limited to mountainous hikes and whitewater rafting.

Minimum Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of closely related experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience making international travel arrangements or managing travel logistics for groups.

Position Details

Position Title:                   Assistant Project Manager (Program Manager)

Position Number:             NEW

Department:                      Mansfield Center Administration

Work Schedule:                Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (weekends and evening work may be required depending on program needs), 12 months/year.

Salary:                                $20.734/hr . Current employee’s rate of pay for this position will be determined by the staff compensation plan and will minimally be this posted salary. For questions and details regarding the staff compensation plan, email the Compensation Department .

Probationary Period:        Six months minimum
