Job Summary

Administers all finance, human resources and facilities and other operational activities for small to mid-sized academic or research program. Administers major program components, and some or all of the program's operational requirements. Develops and organizes conferences and other public forums. Works under direction of Principal Investigator or more senior Academic Program Officer to establish center agenda, funding, objectives.

The Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center seeks an Assistant Program Manager with proven experience to oversee aspects of its Cancer Immunotherapy Program (CIP).

Under the supervision of CIP’s Program Nurse Manager, the Assistant Program Manager will play a lead role in developing and maintaining CIP practices and processes, workflows, educational opportunities, and resource monitoring. The Assistant Program Manager will support the Program Nurse Manager and Faculty Program Leader in the development and maintenance of the program as it grows operations to Mission Bay.

The Assistant Program Manager must have the ability to use critical thinking skills to perform and prioritize multiple tasks. A high degree of independence, initiative, assertiveness, tenacity, and diplomacy will be necessary to effectively nurture relationships with diverse stakeholders across the campus and health system such as faculty, staff, providers, and patients, external strategic research partners, and clinical trial sponsors. 


Department Description

The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (HDFCCC) is a national leader in oncology research combing basic science, clinical research, epidemiology, cancer control and patient care. Currently, the HDFCCC conducts over 700 clinical trials across various departments. The mission of the HDFCCC is to provide patients and their families with streamlined access to cutting-edge cancer therapies, including but not limited to next generation targeted therapies, immunotherapies and innovative chemotherapy combinations.


Required Qualifications

•    Advanced degree in Public Health, Healthcare or in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
•    Minimum 3 years of related experience.
•    Thorough knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices.
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, EXCEL, PowerPoint, and Outlook
•    Experience with translational and clinical research processes and related clinical operations and familiarity with research related regulation
•    Ability to problem-solve and anticipate and manage patient expectations, ability to present problems and solutions effectively to faculty, campus and hospital personnel.
•    Experience in Project Management.
•    Strong oral and written communication skills.
•    Strong ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.
•    Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results.
•    Strong ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers.
•    Ability to exercise good judgment to identify and handle sensitive and confidential issues and assignments with discretion.


Preferred Qualifications

•    Terminal degree in a related field preferred (PhD, JD, MD, etc.).
•    Project Management Professional Certifications
•    Academic background and experience in selected area of research.
•    Solid fundraising experience.
