School/College/Division Description
The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee College of Health Professions & Sciences offers a wide array of health-related academic programs in biomedical sciences, global health, health care administration, nursing, the rehabilitation sciences, and sustainable peacebuilding serving 2300+ students. The faculty and staff in these areas are training our graduates for high-demand careers. Many of our degree programs are nationally recognized and ranked and have achieved the highest accreditation possible. The academic quality of our programs is excellent, and through our outreach and e-Learning programs, we have extended access to our educational resources to distant locations. Our interdisciplinary collaborations continue to expand, which has enabled us to establish a distinguished presence on campus and become an engine for innovation for southeastern Wisconsin. Through research, our faculty, staff, and students continue to break new ground and pioneer investigations that are helping advance discoveries critical to the health care professions and sciences. We are proudly dedicated to serving our community through fruitful partnership with many organizations, alumni, and friends.
The School of Biomedical Sciences and Health Care Administration offers programs in Biomedical Sciences and Health Care Administration. In Health Care Administration, UWM is the only health care administration degree program in Wisconsin that is certified by the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA) and are among only 48 AUPHA-certified undergraduate programs in the nation. Our undergraduate program integrates a minor in business administration to reinforce the strong management skills for which our graduates are known. All of our students complete a semester-long internship, which provides an integrative educational and fieldwork experience. Thanks to our urban location and strong community partnerships, students have access to internships at leading local and national health care organizations. As participants in the American College of Healthcare Executives Higher Education Network, our program and the Future Healthcare Executives student organization connect students with leaders and professionals in the field through educational and networking opportunities. Our Master of Healthcare Administration program helps health care administrators make effective decisions by understanding the basic business principles and tools related to finance, information systems, strategic planning, human resource management and marketing.
The Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) program prepares you to enter management positions with the knowledge to make a difference when managing medical information and health care staff in all areas of the industry, and in doing so, provide excellent health care quality and value. We are the first accredited MHA program in Wisconsin. UWM’s Master of Healthcare Administration is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME). Our program is designed for both full-time or part-time students with the flexibility of completing the program entirely online. Full-time students can complete the program in just two years.
