Position Summary
The Surgery Clerkship Assistant Director is the faculty member responsible for collaborating with the Clerkship Director for the development, implementation, and assessment of the assigned TCOM undergraduate core surgery clerkship curriculum in collaboration with faculty, the chair and dean. The expected time commitment is approximately 10% FTE inclusive of time for Academy of Medical Educators, Clerkship Committees and administration of the duties assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• Clinically experienced and board certified or board eligible in Surgery or Specialty Surgery.
• Experience with clinical supervision and instruction, and clinical assessment strategies of medical students.
• Medical degree (DO or MD) and an unrestricted license to practice medicine.
Preferred Qualifications
• Have demonstrated excellence in teaching.
• Be able to motivate colleagues to teach and to recruit new faculty into teaching roles.
• Have skill in formative evaluation and feedback for individual students; be able to advise and supervise remediation for students with academic problems.
• Be enthusiastic about students and regard undergraduate medical student education as a central focus of career development.
• Be able to provide career guidance to medical students.
• Be able to provide overall vision for the clerkship in collaboration with clerkship coordinator, other faculty, the chair, and the dean.
• Have working knowledge of national, school-wide, and department-specific curricular goals for students in his or her own community, school, and discipline.
• Be willing and able to work with other disciplines and professions in order to provide interprofessional education and practice opportunities.
