Department Summary
The School of Public Health (SPH) and the Center for Health Policy (CHP) at The University of North Texas Health Science Center (HSC) jointly seek two open-rank, non-tenure-track faculty candidates committed to advancing public health, health policy, research, community engagement and education. Teaching responsibilities will be within the SPH, which offers CEPH-accredited programs including the MPH, MS, and PhD, and the CAHME-accredited MHA degree program. The school is expanding its focus on public health policy and exploring the possibility of offering related academic degree programs. Teaching responsibilities within CHP will be inclusive of research capacity building for individuals and community organizations, non-credit course curriculum development and research mentorship roles.
Position Summary
 
Public health and health policy significantly influence health outcomes. We welcome faculty candidates dedicated to advancing research, community engagement and education in these domains including but not limited to addressing social and political determinants of health, disease prevention, health education and promotion, environmental health, safety standards for food, water, and transportation, restrictions on harmful products and deceptive marketing, misinformation, emergency preparedness, social justice, global health and health equity.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Research and Scholarship:

  • Engage in impactful research at the intersection of public health, health policy, health systems, and health equity
  • Advance the translation of research into policy
  • Advance implementation and team science
  • Pursue external research funding
  • Develop sustainable collaborative relationships
  • Publish research findings and content expertise in peer-reviewed journals, policy briefs, op-eds and narrative essays
  • Present research findings and content expertise through multiple forums including but not limited to conferences, symposia, workshops, telementoring models (e.g. webinars, podcasts), town halls and community translational advisory boards

2. Teaching and Curriculum Development:
  • Develop and deliver graduate courses and research capacity building curricula in public health and health policy, including but not limited to policy analysis and health systems and community based structural interventions
  • Create and update course materials, syllabi, and assessments to ensure curriculum relevance and alignment with the latest industry trends
  • Mentor students and early career researchers through advising, supervision of research projects, and career development

3. Service and Engagement:
  • Collaborate with SPH and CHP colleagues and external academic and community-based partners to nurture an inclusive interdisciplinary collaborative environment
  • Participate in institutional and external committees and advisory boards to contribute to institutional governance and robust bidirectional community engagement
  • Partner with local, regional, national and global community and health organizations to address public health and health policy challenges

4. Professional Development:
  • Stay current with emerging trends and challenges in public health and health policy
  • Participate in relevant professional organizations and networks to maintain a strong presence in the field
  • Pursue opportunities for professional growth and development

Minimum Qualifications
  • A terminal degree (PhD, DrPH, MD, DO, DNP, PharmD or equivalent) in public health, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, health policy, public policy, social science or a related field
  • Demonstrated expertise in public health and health policy
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and curriculum development at the graduate level
  • Demonstrated experience as an independent investigator/researcher with ability to secure external research funding
Preferred Qualifications
  • A terminal degree (PhD, DrPH, MD, DO, DNP, PharmD or equivalent) in public health, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, health policy, public policy, social science or a related field
  • Advanced leadership skills
  • Ability to engage in collaborative research projects and with diverse stakeholders, including students, colleagues, and community partners
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a cohesive team environment
  • Exceptional ability to manage multiple demands and responsibilities in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment
