Essential Duties and Responsibilities | The Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte has one tenure-track assistant professor position. The successful candidate is expected to support the academic programs offered by the department. Research focus and expertise may include any of the following: data science, forecasting, industrial systems, machine learning, optimization, reliability, simulation, and statistics. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a funded research program that complements and supports multidisciplinary research efforts in transformational energy systems, transportation and advanced mobility, digital manufacturing, and smart and sustainable cities. We are particularly interested in those with experience in leveraging artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, cloud/edge computing, cybersecurity, etc. to address today’s engineering challenges. Potential specific domain areas include advanced battery technologies, digital twinning in energy and manufacturing, intelligent vehicles and electrification, simulation and calibration of large-scale and complex transportation systems, distributed self-aware systems for smart city applications, and vehicle to infrastructure communications. |
Minimum Experience/Education | UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. |
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience | Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Engineering or another closely related field, such as Computer Science and Statistics. Preferred applicants will have a background in data science and its applications in one or more of the following areas: supply chain, health care, transportation, energy, and manufacturing, and can teach R (with data mining) and Python (with Data warehousing/SQL). In addition, they must demonstrate significant accomplishments or outstanding potential in scholarship, teaching, and research, depending on the rank of appointment. Successful candidates are expected to: 1) develop and sustain nationally and internationally recognized, externally funded research programs as evidenced by high-quality publications and successful mentoring of students; 2) contribute to teaching and curriculum development at both the graduate and undergraduate levels; and 3) contribute to diversity initiatives at the University. |
