Summary of Job Duties:
The Office of Educational Development (OED) at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences) is seeking a faculty level instructional designer (Assistant/Associate Professor) to implement educational innovations in order to improve learning outcomes of students. The designer will assist faculty across colleges in applying research-based design principles, methods, and best practices to instruct and assist faculty with instructional methods in online, blended, and face-to-face classroom environments, and to evaluate the effectiveness of these educational innovations. The designer will work as part of a team focused on assisting faculty with course design and delivery. Initial academic rank will depend on experience and credentials.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in instructional design or related field plus five (5) years of experience in the instructional design and/or evaluation of curricular materials required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with peers and clients
Ability to effectively manage multiple activities under time constraints
Familiarity with software tools to develop learning and multimedia objects, such as SoftChalk, Articulate Storyline, HTML, MS Word and PowerPoint
Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in instructional design or related field
Teaching experience in medical education, healthcare, or higher education
Experience in developing and implementing active learning strategies, such as peer-based learning, problem based learning, or team-based learning
Experience with assessment software such as ExamSoft, Responds, EAC Outcomes
Responsibilities:
Collaborates with faculty to analyze needs and to design interventions and curricular materials to achieve desirable learning outcomes
Collaborates with OED faculty to develop and present faculty development workshops on teaching and learning strategies and specific eLearning tools
Analyzes, selects, and uses learning technologies in course delivery (virtual classrooms, web-based learning platforms)
Creates instructional materials, including lesson plans, multi-media learning objects (video, audio, graphics), PowerPoint presentations
Writes and edits instructional content, such as audio/video scripts, case scenarios, learning guides
Participates in team based planning and implementation of instructional design process
Evaluates the effectiveness of educational innovations and communicating results
May perform other duties as assigned
