Summary of Job Duties:

The Office of Educational Development (OED) at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences) is seeking a faculty level instructional designer (Assistant/Associate Professor) to implement educational innovations in order to improve learning outcomes of students. The designer will assist faculty across colleges in applying research-based design principles, methods, and best practices to instruct and assist faculty with instructional methods in online, blended, and face-to-face classroom environments, and to evaluate the effectiveness of these educational innovations. The designer will work as part of a team focused on assisting faculty with course design and delivery. Initial academic rank will depend on experience and credentials.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in instructional design or related field plus five (5) years of experience in the instructional design and/or evaluation of curricular materials required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with peers and clients

  • Ability to effectively manage multiple activities under time constraints

  • Familiarity with software tools to develop learning and multimedia objects, such as SoftChalk, Articulate Storyline, HTML, MS Word and PowerPoint

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in instructional design or related field

  • Teaching experience in medical education, healthcare, or higher education

  • Experience in developing and implementing active learning strategies, such as peer-based learning, problem based learning, or  team-based learning

  • Experience with assessment software such as ExamSoft, Responds, EAC Outcomes

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with faculty to analyze needs and to design interventions and curricular materials to achieve desirable learning outcomes

  • Collaborates with OED faculty to develop and present faculty development workshops on teaching and learning strategies and specific eLearning tools

  • Analyzes, selects, and uses learning technologies in course delivery (virtual classrooms, web-based learning platforms)

  • Creates instructional materials, including lesson plans, multi-media learning objects (video, audio, graphics), PowerPoint presentations

  • Writes and edits instructional content, such as audio/video scripts, case scenarios, learning guides

  • Participates in team based planning and implementation of instructional design process

  • Evaluates the effectiveness of educational innovations and communicating results

  • May perform other duties as assigned
