The Department of Genetics seeks exceptional candidates for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will be a creative scientist who is focused on cutting edge experimental mammalian genetics and/or genomics. The specific area of research is open, and the successful applicant may have a computational component in their research, but experimental data generation should be at the foundation of the research program.

Genetics is the largest basic science department within the UNC School of Medicine and is committed to team science and interdisciplinary research. Among the fields of research represented in the department are genetic and genomic approaches to the study of common human diseases including cancer, metabolic, psychiatric, autoimmune, and infectious diseases; functional genomics; animal models of human disease; immunology; precision medicine; and statistical and computational research.

Applicants working in these and other biomedical research areas who aim to understand the contribution of genetic variation to biological traits including but not limited to disease pathogenesis or treatment response are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will hold a position, and research laboratory space, within the department. They will be expected to direct an independent research program supported by extramural funding. The successful candidate will also participate in graduate student mentoring and teaching at the graduate level.
