Job Description

The Department of Chemistry in the Brailsford College of Arts and Sciences at Prairie View A&M University invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position for the rank of Assistant Professor.

Responsibilities include teaching lecture and laboratory courses at the undergraduate and graduate (MS) level, conducting research which involves undergraduate and graduate students, as well as providing service to the department, college, university, and field. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply, though we particularly encourage candidates working in the broad areas of Nanomaterials,  Inorganic, Organometallic, Analytical, Physical, and Bio-Chemistry. Preference will be given to candidates who foster a culture of diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their teaching, research, and service.  This is a fall 2022 appointment. 

Responsibilities:

  • Teach lecture and laboratory courses, advise students, participate in curriculum and program development, and supervise undergraduate and graduate students in their research projects.

  • Engage in scholarly research activities aimed at publication of research in peer-reviewed journals, and presentations of research work at professional conferences. Write grant proposals for external funding to support individual and collaborative research projects.

  • Engage in student recruitment for undergraduate and graduate programs, take on committee assignments at department, college and University levels. Provide service to the community and the profession.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry and postdoctoral work with substantial research experience in one or more of the following areas: Nanomaterials,  Inorganic, Organometallic, Analytical, Physical, and Bio-Chemistry.

  • A solid record of published research commensurate with years since receiving Ph.D.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Candidates must be able and willing to teach courses in General Chemistry, Inorganic or Analytical Chemistry, be able to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with departmental colleagues in an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.

  • Ability to develop and sustain an independent, externally funded research program focused on advancing the science of their expertise. This research program should involve undergraduate and graduate students and should lead to original, peer-reviewed journal publications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry and 2 years of postdoctoral research experience. 

  • Prior successful teaching experience at the post-secondary level.

  • A research program which complements the expertise of current faculty members and applies innovative methods to solve contemporary problems in their field of expertise, especially those involving green chemistry and the environment.
