Position Description

The Department of Classical and Modern Languages at the University of Louisville invites applications from individuals with an established record of dynamic undergraduate teaching and administrative experience coordinating a Spanish language program and supervising language instructors in first- and second-year Spanish program for an Assistant Professor (Term) Spanish beginning August 1, 2022.  Preferred candidates will hold a PhD in Second Language Acquisition, Spanish Applied Linguistics, or a related field. Primary duties involve teaching in the first- and second-year Spanish program, overseeing the curriculum and in-person, hybrid, and online instruction of lower-level Spanish courses, providing professional development for instructors and scheduling and staffing courses. This is a one-year term position with the possibility of renewals and is subject to final budgetary approval.

The successful candidate will have native or near-native proficiency in both Spanish and English, effective interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, and demonstrated experience and excellence in program coordination and language teaching in traditional, online and hybrid teaching environments, including the development of instructional materials that are communicatively oriented and reflect expertise in proficiency-based language instruction, ACTFL World Readiness Standards, and instructional technologies. Additionally, the successful candidate will demonstrate a clear commitment to understanding issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion, as well as best practices for ensuring that all students in a diverse community, including members of traditionally underrepresented groups, are supported.
