Position Description:

Position Opening for Assistant Professor in Sport Administration

(10-month, tenure track)

The College of Education and Human Development is seeking candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Sport Administration Program within the Department of Health and Sport Sciences. This position is a tenure-track, 10-month appointment with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2024. We are seeking applicants with teaching and research expertise in one or more of the sport management core content areas who can maintain an active research agenda.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in sport administration. They will mentor and advise students at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. They will be expected to conduct impactful, peer-reviewed research and scholarship in sport administration and engage in service activities at the department, university, and professional levels.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate degree in Sport Administration, Sport Management, or closely related field (ABD candidates should provide an expected graduation date) 
  • Demonstrated success in college/university teaching experience in one or more COSMA content areas.
  • An established and impactful record of research in the field and demonstrated ability to publish in peer reviewed journals in Sport Administration, Sport Management, or closely related fields.
  • Able to work effectively as a team member to support program priorities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.
Desired Qualifications
  • Commitment to teaching excellence, and pedagogy and teaching that is student centered.
  • Evidence of teaching success and innovation in one or more of the following areas: Strategic Sport Management, Sport Media and Communications, Sport Marketing and Promotions, Legal Issues in Sport, and Event Management and Planning.
  • Evidence of seeking or procuring external funding or a willingness to seek external funding to support research and scholarly inquiry.
  • Ability or interest in developing new curricular offerings in emerging areas of interest in the sport industry including but not limited to: NIL, sport analytics, social media and sport, athlete activism, governance and regulation of college athletics, and organizational change.
  • Ability or interest in developing research and academic partnerships with local, regional, national and international industry professionals and sport organizations to enhance community engagement and expand the program's innovative domestic and international experiential learning opportunities.
Salary:

Competitive, based upon qualifications and experience.

Appointment: August 1, 2024.
