Job Summary:

The College of Arts & Media, Music and Entertainment Industry Studies has an opening for a full-time Tenure Track (unclassified) position. Teaching assignments will have a start date of August 2024, and will require a 40% teaching, 40% Research and 20% Service load. The incumbent will be accountable for teaching courses from the following list based on the candidate’s skills, related to music production, digital audio, live sound, surround sound, music synthesis, live sound, music technology, and audio for post-production, as well as any additional music courses as required by the MEIS Department and will need to possess the ability to teach undergraduate courses, graduate courses and engage in research, creative work, and service.  The continuance of this appointment will be based on merit/performance, budget, academic needs, and enrollment numbers.

Examples of Work Performed:

Teaching (40%)

  • Teach a 2/3 course load (15 total credit hours per academic year) in the following areas of recording arts depending on area of candidate skills/expertise: music production, digital audio, live sound, surround sound, music synthesis, live sound, music technology, and audio for post-production, as well as any additional music courses as required by the MEIS Department, at both the undergraduate and graduate course levels
  • Prepare course content, syllabi, lectures, presentations, and student assignments; evaluation of student work; track progress of student attendance and engagement; student advisement, office hours, management of course in online platform Canvas; etc.
  • Graduate thesis and portfolio mentorship
  • All other duties and projects as requested

Research (40%)

  • Engage in professional and academic community through publications, recordings, performances, multimedia, and professional development areas
  • Produce professional work through scholarly and creative activity such as peer-reviewed publications, presentations at workshops, conferences and symposia as related to scholarly work areas

Service (20%)

  • Engage in and contribute to the function and operations of the department, as defined by the department chair
  • Work with the broader community in representing the university, department, and students through College, University and System-wide committees, as well as in the local and regional communities

Other

  • Attend MEIS and College of Arts & Media meetings.

Salary:

The salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $68,000 to $71,000.  

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. 

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Music Production, Recording Arts, Audio Engineering/Post-production or related field
  • At least three years teaching experience at the college or professionally comparable level
  • National and/or international professional/industry experience in the field of Recording Arts
  • Record of scholarly and/or creative work, and ability to provide proof of portfolio
  • Experience that shows diversity, equity, and inclusivity practices, and inclusive pedagogy in teaching and/or creative work
  • Experience collaborating on cross-disciplinary initiatives

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three to five years teaching experience at the college or professionally comparable level
  • Active:

o   in the music and recording industry;

o   professional development and memberships in fields of interest at a National level

  • Experience with cutting edge technologies in fields such as video game audio, immersive audio, VR, AR, Dolby Atmos
  • Experience in programmatic advising/thesis and portfolio mentorship
