Job Summary:

The new Neuroscience Program at the University of San Francisco invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin August 2024, contingent upon funding approval. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to teaching, service, and/or research in cognitive neuroscience. This newly designed major will prepare students to:
• Shape socially responsible communities committed to justice in the Bay Area, where many of the technological innovations that alter society are developed
• Embrace neurodiversity in our society, advocating for effective accommodations for those who need them
• Center mental health equity in their communities, and
• Compete for a wide array of jobs in industry, as well as academia and other fields, advancing multi-disciplinary excellence for service to society
The department seeks a candidate whose research program is anchored in human cognitive neuroscience and has a strong record of published interest or experience in teaching at the undergraduate level. We are particularly interested in candidates who use psychophysiological research methodologies such as electrophysiological measurement (EEG/ERP), transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), neuroimaging (fNIRS), and neuropsychological methods. The ideal candidate is also committed to increasing diversity and equity in higher education. We are particularly eager to meet candidates who are engaged in service with underrepresented communities and who have demonstrated a commitment to teaching and mentoring students belonging to groups historically underrepresented in the sciences.
The candidate’s area of research may include, but is not limited to, cognitive, social, or computational neuroscience.

Full Job Description:

Job Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to teach a subset of the following neuroscience courses: Introduction to Neuroscience (lecture and lab), Data Analysis & Research Design for the Neurosciences, specific upper-level Neuroscience courses satisfying the Neuroscience major’s breadth requirement (for example, Behavioral Neuroscience, Computational Neuroscience, or Neuroscience-informed User Design). The candidate, depending on area of specialization and programmatic need, may also teach one or more courses in a related department like Biology or Psychology. The standard teaching load for this position is two 4-unit courses per semester with an additional third course every fourth semester (2-2-2-3 over two years). The successful candidate will also be expected to maintain an active research program, preferably one that engages diverse undergraduate students. Candidates will also be expected to engage in service to the department, college, and university. Of particular importance will be providing mentorship, advising, and support for Neuroscience majors and USF students.

 

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Psychology, Neuroscience or a related field, earned by August 2024. A strong commitment to and record of undergraduate teaching and research training, evidence of research and scholarship, and an understanding of and commitment to work in a culturally diverse environment and support the mission of the University of San Francisco are required.
