Job Summary
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at East Tennessee State University invites applications for a 9-month, full-time tenure track, assistant professor for the 2024-2025 academic year. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated educator to join our team, contributing to our commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will have broad expertise in education, with a dual focus on preparing educators and empowering them to excel in a dynamic educational landscape.
The primary teaching responsibilities for this position include graduate and undergraduate generalist courses which may include topics such as lesson planning, instructional management, job-embedded, and other licensure-focused courses. The individual may also be responsible for teaching other undergraduate education courses, including on the Sevierville campus, and supervising field and student teachers depending on departmental needs and the individual’s expertise.
The candidate will also be responsible for cooperation and coordination with the Office of Educator Preparation, maintenance of student records, data collection and analysis, participation in departmental, college, and university professional and service activities, and facilitating program needs. Candidates should have a demonstrated research interest in teacher preparation and development.
All positions at East Tennessee State University are contingent upon sufficient funding.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of five years of verifiable K-12 classroom teaching experience.
  • An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Education, Teaching and Learning, Educational Studies, or another closely related Education field is required. ABD by the assumption of the position in Fall 2024 will be considered, with assurances that the degree will be awarded within one year.
  • Evidence of, or clear potential for, active scholarship with a focus on teacher preparation and/or development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Involvement in specialized professional associations
  • Experience teaching at the postsecondary level
  • Previous experience in supervisory, administrative, or leadership roles in education
  • Experience in curriculum and/or program development
  • Experience teaching in multiple modalities including demonstrated experience teaching in hybrid and online delivery formats
  • Record of scholarly publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Record of successful grant funding
  • Documented experience navigating teacher certification-related assessments such as edTPA, Praxis, etc.
  • Documented experience with accreditation assessments and programs such as CAEP
  • Demonstrated evidence of ways in which teaching, research, and service contribute to building and sustaining equitable and inclusive communities.
