SUMMARY:

The Department of Health and Human Performance is seeking faculty for a  Tenure Track position for an Assistant Professor of Health & Human Performance.  This position will begin in Fall 2022.

The successful candidate will teach graduate courses in Sport and Recreation Management / Athletic Administration and serve as the program coordinator for the concentration in International Sport Management (MS, Anticipated Program Start date of 2022).  The candidate will also support the B.S. in Sport and Recreation Management where needed. The successful applicant will teach twelve credit hours (4/4), advise students, supervise student research, establish a research/scholarly agenda, serve on department and university committees, and seek funding within and outside of the university.  Other duties as assigned.

Individuals must have a doctorate in Sport Management, Athletic Administration, or related field. Preference will be given to individuals who have higher education teaching experience, have a strong record of or research potential, and have experience supervising/advising students. Additionally, preference will be given to candidates who have experience in the international sport world, either as a practitioner or scholar (or both).

The position is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank. Summer teaching is optional but not guaranteed. The position will primarily serve as the program coordinator for International Sport Management at the graduate level and may also teach courses in the graduate Athletic Administration Program as well select undergraduate courses in the B.S. in Sport and Recreation Management Program, in the Department of Health and Human Performance. Faculty at Texas A & M University-Commerce are required to conduct scholarly activities, work cooperatively with others, and contribute service to their discipline, the university, and the community.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Teach masters courses in the areas of International Sport Management and Athletic Administration. Support undergraduate teaching in Sport and Recreation Management
  • Provide service to the department, college, university, and community
  • Coordinate the graduate program in International Sport Management offered by the Department of Health & Human Performance and oversee the growth and implementation of the degree.
  • Establish a research/scholarly agenda.
  • Maintain knowledge and stay abreast of current trends in learning with research, best practices in teaching, and technological applications in the classroom, including online teaching.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: The candidate must have earned a doctoral degree in one of the following areas: Sport Management, Athletic Administration, or related field. ABD will be considered.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: The candidate should demonstrate a teaching competency and effectiveness in the following areas: Sport Management, Athletic Administration, or International Sport Management or related field. Must have primary teaching experience at the university level. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team of professionals. The candidate must have a demonstrated ability to establish and pursue research and scholarship and will be expected to serve on thesis committees/projects and advise undergraduate and/or graduate students.
  • Ability to: Multi-task and work well as part of a team.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

  • University-level teaching experience of Sport Management, Athletic Administration or International Sport Management
  • Ability to advise graduate students and support undergraduate programs.
  • Understanding of the International Sport World as a scholar or a practitioner (or both) and have established connections with both.
  • Established record of developing and growing a graduate program.
  • Experience with Sport Marketing for professional teams/organizations.
  • Experience in the evolving role for sport agents, professional teams, and the globalization of sport.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a multidisciplinary setting. 
  • Commitment to diversity and working in multicultural contexts.

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:

  • Supervision of graduate assistants, practicum students and student interns as needed.
