Department Summary
The Department of Educational Psychology is one of four departments in the College of Education. The Department of Educational Psychology currently offers a BS degree in Human Development and Family Science, a MEd in Special Education, a MS in Educational Psychology, a PhD in Special Education, and a PhD in Educational Psychology. The Special Education PhD has one concentration and students can specialize within that major. The Educational Psychology PhD organized around four concentrations: Gifted and Talented Education; Human Development and Family Science; Learning Sciences; and Research Methodology, Measurement, & Statistics.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
Position Summary
The Department invites applications for an appointment at the Assistant Professor rank to begin Fall 2024. The position is for an applicant with expertise in Special Education. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the continued development and success of the department and growing the special education program through research, teaching, and mentoring of students. Instructional roles include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in traditional and online formats and potentially at satellite locations. The successful candidate will be expected to develop or continue an ongoing scholarship agenda in an area of specialization, including regular publications in quality outlets, professional presentations, and submission of external grant proposals. Service on dissertation committees is expected, as well as committee participation and other relevant service activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate in Special Education. Doctorates in a closely related field will be considered as long as the clear purpose of the degree is special education. ABD candidates will be considered as long as the dissertation is successfully defended prior to the start date.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with a record of published research in academic or behavioral interventions for students with disabilities (e.g., intellectual disabilities, reading disabilities, emotional and/or behavioral disabilities). Preference will be given to candidates with teaching and research experience. Preference will also be given to candidates with external funding or the potential for external funding, commensurate with rank.
