The Department of Sociology at St. Catherine University invites applications for a full-time, nine-month non-tenure track position.
The undergraduate college at St. Catherine University (St. Kate’s) is one of only six US institutions that is both a women’s college and a minority serving institution. Based in the Twin Cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota, St. Kate’s is home to a diverse group of around 3,500 students in varying disciplines and degree levels. The Department of Sociology offers a variety of courses with an emphasis in race, class, gender, and related intersections. This position will support students pursuing a major or minor in Sociology as well as students who are taking Sociology to fulfill their Liberal Arts core. Strong candidates will be comfortable teaching a diverse pool of students at all undergraduate levels.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Teach 7 courses annually – primarily in the Department of Sociology.
  • Teach at least one course in Gender and Women’s Studies.
  • Teach at least one introductory course, The Reflective Woman (TRW) in the Core program.
  • Develop syllabii, deliver and grade course materials.
  • Support students and be available to address their questions.
  • Monitor and assess student-learning outcomes and provide timely and frequent feedback to students on academic performance.
  • Monitor curriculum content and make recommendations as appropriate to maintain relevance.

Minimum Qualifications
  • All But Dissertation (ABD) in Sociology.
  • One (1) year teaching in a university setting.
  • Capable of teaching all levels of undergraduate courses to students of all cultures and backgrounds.
  • Active research and scholarly agenda.
  • Active research and scholarly agenda with scholarly interests in intersectionality of race, class, gender, and expertise in gender and women’s studies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in Sociology.
  • Ability to teach in a traditional or online environment.
  • Experience fostering a culture of inclusive excellence through authentic relationships with students as an educator and a mentor.
  • Consistent with the university’s Catholic identity, its commitment to women, diversity, inclusion, social justice, and dedication to a liberal arts-based curriculum, faculty are expected to manifest these themes in their teaching and practice experiences.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with evidence of successful college teaching effectiveness.
  • Preference with be given to candidates with scholarly interests in intersectionality of race, class, gender and other differences.
  • Represent and promote the Department at major fairs, events etc.
