Job Summary
The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS) invites applications for one or more full time Assistant Professor (Senior Research) positions. These appointments are fixed-term, non-tenure track, with the possibility of renewal at the discretion of the Dean.
The incumbent will establish and maintain a program of research supporting timely promotion in rank, and offer significant contributions to the field and continued external funding of an appropriate research program. They will work toward distinction in research as evidenced by national recognition. Research activities are expected to result in publications advancing understanding of the earth, ocean, and atmospheric sciences, and in technical developments that improve understanding of the Earth system. This incumbent may advise students. They also may teach as the need arises and with approval from the Dean, but they may not teach more than one course per academic year. Other duties may be assigned by the Dean to meet the needs of the College, within the framework of fractional effort.

OSU will also soon take ownership of a $25M NVIDIA super-computer, which will be a university-wide resource for computational research.

Key Responsibilities
90% – Sponsored Research
Develop, establish, and maintain an active program of scholarly research with distinction as evidenced, for example, by national and international recognition, and or external funding. Establish and maintain a program of research that supports timely promotion in rank and includes significant contributions to the field and/or broader impacts that benefit society. Publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, books, or other media as appropriate to the area of interest. Disseminate research results by participation at national and international conferences and symposia, and other appropriate outreach and engagement efforts. Supervise research staff, graduate research assistants, and/or student employees as needed.
5% – Grant Writing and Publications
Researches and writes proposals to federal funding agencies and other sources for salary and expenses for travel, computers and research equipment. Manages external funding resulting from approved grant proposals.
5% – Service
Engages in service to the disciplinary group, the college, the university, and the profession.
Makes contributions to educational equity, a multicultural setting, and the advancement of diverse groups and diverse perspectives.
What You Will Need
  • PhD in Earth Sciences or related discipline.
  • At least two-years of post-doctoral experience.
  • Evidence for publication in peer-reviewed journals of original research.
  • Two years of external funding support.
  • A commitment to educational equity in a multicultural setting and to advancing the participation of diverse groups and supporting diverse perspectives.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
