Scope of Job
The UTRGV School of Podiatric Medicine seeks a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor for teaching basic sciences. Experience teaching in an LCME accredited medical school or CPME accredited podiatry school is preferred. The chosen individuals will assist in implementing a vertically and horizontally integrated curriculum utilizing active learning, team-based learning, problem-based learning, flipped classroom and self-directed study. Duties are not limited to:
· Develop the goals, learning objectives, pre read assignments, pre and post test questions and any supplemental materials for each topic sequence (may identify faculty from other colleges to assist).
· Provide support, guidance, and mentoring to each student during their clerkship year as needed.
· Review reflections/experiences of students.
· Prepare for, attend, and participate in monthly faculty meetings.
· Work on projects within at least one working group such as OSCE case development; communication skills; write-up, oral case presentation and clinical reasoning; professionalism and ethics; mentoring; feedback and evaluation.
· Participate in and facilitate academy faculty development sessions and retreats (which occur periodically throughout the year) as needed.
· Participate in university and SOPM committees as appointed.
Candidates must possess a terminal Degree of (Ph.D.) or equivalent with post-doctoral experience in the area of expertise.
The selected candidate will provide instruction in basic science courses across multiple disciplines primarily focus on Biochemistry but also include expertise in Cell Biology, Histology, and Immunology, and serve as facilitator for small group discussion in case-based learning, problem-based learning, and other small group sessions. In addition, this position will collaborate with clinical and basic science faculty for the development of clinical cases to emphasize basic science curriculum and will participate in the development and review of exams and evaluation of learning outcomes.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.
