The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in the Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio (UTHSA) is seeking to appoint 2 full-time psychology faculty members at the Assistant Professor level to support 10 ongoing research projects at UT Health San Antonio (UTHSA) and at the Fort Cavazos, Texas site of the STRONG STAR (South Texas Research Organizational Network Guiding Studies on Trauma And Resilience) Consortium. STRONG STAR is the nation’s largest research consortium focused on combat-related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and comorbid conditions (traumatic brain injury, chronic pain, sleep disorders, substance use disorders, suicide, and tinnitus) and include the collaboration of over 150 investigators and over 50 institutions worldwide (see www.STRONGSTAR.org).

The positions will involve supporting all aspects of clinical research funded by the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, Division of Prevention and Intervention. The faculty members will serve as co-investigators, clinical supervisors, educators, research therapists, and supervisors of research staff. As co-investigators, faculty will assist with the implementation of the clinical research and collaborate on the development and submission of research grant applications as a co-investigator or principal investigator. As clinical supervisors, faculty will provide supervision of postdoctoral fellows serving as research therapists and evaluators on multiple projects. As educators, the faculty will assist in the training, supervision, and mentorship of postgraduates, graduate students, interns, residents, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty members. As research therapists, faculty will receive expert training and consultation in conducting the evidence-based interventions being evaluated by the research studies. As supervisors of research staff, faculty members will supervise project coordinators and research assistants who work at Fort Cavazos to support the various ongoing research and clinical projects. Faculty members have helped more than 30 research staff gain admission into graduate programs. 

Qualifications:

• A doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an American Psychological Association-accredited program

• A predoctoral internship from an American Psychological Association-accredited program

• Completion of all doctoral degree requirements by the start of the fellowship program

• Licensed or license eligible as a psychologist in the State of Texas

Preferred qualifications include: 

• Experience with cognitive behavioral therapies for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), chronic pain, sleep disorders, and/or suicide risk such as prolonged exposure therapy, cognitive processing therapy, cognitive behavioral conjoint therapy, written exposure therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia, cognitive behavioral therapy for nightmares, cognitive behavioral therapy for headache, and crisis response planning

• Experience in grant submissions and working on research projects funded through the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, Veterans Administration, and private foundations

• A history of publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national scientific conferences
