The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Developmental Pediatrics has an opening for a full-time Assistant ProfessorPsychologist position. 

Nature of Work: 

  • The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Developmental Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is seeking a full-time faculty member at the Assistant Professor level. This position will be at our Children's Hospital Colorado location at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora and/or Network of Care sites. We provide a range of services related to Autism, and complex Neurodevelopmental Conditions.  These services include interdisciplinary developmental assessment and intervention for children and youth. Developmental Pediatrics is part of the Neuroscience Institute at Children's Hospital Colorado, which includes Child Neurology and Neurosurgery. We work closely with Child Psychiatry, Genetics, Rehabilitation, Medicine, and Special Care Clinic, with ample collaborative opportunities.

  • This Assistant Professor Psychologist will provide evidence-based clinical assessment and intervention for children with developmental conditions including but not limited to Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability, neurogenetic conditions, and developmental disabilities using a strength-based approach and in full recognition of neurodiversity. In addition to clinical excellence, faculty is expected to demonstrate skills and efforts in the areas of clinical consultation, research/scholarship, consultation, and training related to developmental disabilities.

Position Emphasis:

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Direct psychological consultations, evaluations, integrated behavioral health interventions, psychotherapy and group therapy related to developmental disabilities.
  • Individual and multidisciplinary comprehensive assessment of developmental behavioral concerns.
  • Faculty participates and contributes to the training of psychology externs, interns and post-doctoral fellows as well as medical students, residents and fellows. Training may include supervision and didactic presentations.
  • Faculty contribute to program development including involvement in ongoing QI projects.
  • Faculty is expected to demonstrate scholarly interest and activity. This may include clinical research, developing new treatments, literature reviews, and involvement in the development of training or clinical guidelines related to the field of developmental behavioral conditions.

Salary and Benefits: 

The salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $90,000 to $95,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Philosophy or Doctor of Psychology Degree.
  • Candidates must be eligible for licensure, or a licensed psychologist in Colorado.
  • Graduate of an accredited Clinical, Counseling or School Psychology program or the equivalent.
  • Graduate of an APA accredited psychology internship.
  • Postdoctoral Fellowship in Developmental Disabilities or the equivalent.
  • Complies with hospital and medical staff by-law requirements of the job.

Conditions of Employment: 

  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check

Competencies: 

  • Demonstrable familiarity with a range of developmental behavioral conditions.
  • Familiarity and expertise with assessment instruments used with children and adolescents with developmental disabilities.
  • The ability to create strong and respectful helping relationships with patients and colleagues.
  • Curiosity about the impact of neurodevelopmental conditions and the impact on social cognition, adaptive functioning and cognitive abilities.
  • Ability to appropriately conceptualize for parents and professionals autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, developmental strengths and challenges, and the relationship between test results, functioning and recommendations for intervention.
  • The ability to provide thoughtfully planned evidence-based intervention and treatment for children, adolescents and/or their families with developmental behavioral disorders.
  • The ability to embrace and help to sustain a vibrant, positive team environment with respect for providers, support staff and patients.
  • A people-first, strength-based approach to people living with developmental disabilities to ensure best outcomes.
  • Assistant Professor can provide supervision of clinical services and professional development guidance to trainees.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A history of successful academic and scholarly activity related to the field of clinical psychology.
  • A history of interest and demonstrated success in clinical and scholarly activity in the field of developmental behavioral pediatrics.
  • Demonstrated evidence-based assessment with developmental behavioral conditions.
  • Demonstrated evidence-based treatment/intervention expertise with developmental behavioral conditions.
  • Demonstrated teaching and training experience in psychology and developmental pediatrics.
  • 3 or more years’ experience pediatric neurodevelopmental disabilities.
  • 3 or more years’ experience as a psychologist doing pediatric diagnostic assessments.
  • Experience with psychological and developmental testing protocols.
