Description
The School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences (SMAPS) in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the University of New England (UNE) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in physics, starting in August 2024. The successful candidate will join a collegial, engaged team of faculty and professional staff in a school offering programs in biochemistry, chemistry, data science, biophysics, computer science, and applied mathematics.

Responsibilities
The school seeks candidates to teach undergraduate courses in introductory studio physics and advanced courses in biophysics, the physics of medicine and/or additional courses in the candidate’s field of expertise. The typical teaching load is the equivalent of 9 credits per semester. The successful candidate will demonstrate capacity for excellence in teaching, is expected to develop an active, independent research program involving undergraduates that results in peer-reviewed dissemination, and to seek external funding. Additionally, the successful candidate will engage in curriculum development and participate in academic advising, recruiting, course and program assessment, and service to the school, college and University.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field is required at the time of appointment. Preference will be given to candidates with post-doctoral training or related professional experiences. Priority will be given to candidates who can contribute to teaching courses as part of the biophysics minor and our physics of medicine offerings.
