Position Summary

The Physical Therapy Program at University of Wisconsin – La Crosse invites qualified persons to apply for a full-time, 9-month tenure track assistant professor position available January or August 2019.

We are seeking new or established educator who can contribute to the discovery, dissemination, and implementation of evidence in the field of physical therapy/movement science or related disciplines. The DPT program supports a variety of scholarly and clinical research opportunities (EXPAND – Exercise Program for Adults with Neurologic Disorders and LIMS – La Crosse Institute of Movement Science).

The Physical Therapy Program is part of the Department of Health Professions which includes Medical Dosimetry, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Radiation Therapy. Our program consists of 11 dynamic core faculty and a strong complement of adjunct faculty. We are committed to mentoring new faculty in teaching and scholarship. The department is located in the College of Science and Health.

The Physical Therapy Program is housed in the Health Science Center (HSC), recognized for its spacious, well-appointed teaching labs, classrooms, and established biomechanics, human performance, and anatomy laboratories. Our physical therapy program has strong alliances with national, regional, and local medical centers and practices. The program is proud to support the La Crosse Institute of Movement Science (LIMS), Exercise Program for Adults with Neurologic Disorders (EXPAND) and the Gundersen Sports Medicine Residency Program.

General position summary statement for UWL faculty positions:
Under general supervision of department chair, a person in this position is responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses, and advising students. In addition to preparing for and holding classes [face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online], teaching involves maintaining currency in the content area related to the teaching assignment, evaluating students’ work, assessing student outcomes, maintaining appropriate records, and holding office hours. The individual is expected to maintain an active, on-going program of scholarship appropriate to the discipline. In addition, this individual will provide service to the department, college, and university and is likely expected to provide service to the community and/or the profession. Other duties may be assigned by the chair or dean.

Required Qualifications

1. Be licensed to practice physical therapy in a US jurisdiction by position start date.
2. Candidates for the appointment should have or be near to completing a terminal scholarly degree (PhD, DSc, EdD, or equivalent) by the start date. Degree must be earned by the first personnel review, no later than December 15, 2019 if the start date is January, 2019, or by May 15, 2020 if start date is August 2019.

3. Demonstrate ability to present a positive and professional attitude when dealing with students, clinical staff, patients, local community, and the national professional community.
4. Possess excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills, organizational, and time management skills.
5. Have a developing line of scholarly inquiry within the scope of rehabilitation.
