The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth (UNTHSC) Department of Physical Therapy is housed within the School of Health Professions which includes a Physician Assistant Studies Program and an online Master of Science in Lifestyle Medicine With Health and Wellness Coaching. UNTHSC is dedicated to excellence in patient care, education, research, and community service. The Department of Physical Therapy is seeking a faculty member who would like to create solutions for a healthier community by producing highly qualified entry-level Physical Therapy, and leadership in education, professional services, and research activities.
Position Summary
The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth is seeking a faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor Rank for a 12-month appointment, effective immediately. Ideal candidates will have teaching experience in foundational courses such as evidence-based practice, and gait, prosthetics, and orthotics. Duties and responsibilities include teaching, advising, research/scholarship activities, and service in the entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, fostering interprofessional education and practice through collaboration and engagement with academic faculty within the university, school, and program, supporting the mission and vision of the department to create solutions for a healthier community, and abiding by all relevant university and /or department procedures and policies. The position will have an emphasis on teaching in the DPT residential program’s evidence-based practice thread while overseeing the student scholarly activity (capstone) for the program. There is an opportunity to participate in the design, assessment, and delivery of these courses while advising and mentoring students in the graduate program. The position will also have an emphasis on research and scholarship while maintaining a fundable research agenda using internal and external collaborations and resources, procuring internal and external grant funding, enhancing the collaborations of departments across campus, mentoring students and faculty in research activities, and overseeing the HSC Physical Health Biomechanics Research Lab.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following:
· An earned academic doctoral degree (ScD, DSc, EdD, PhD) with a research focus that prepares the candidate for independent research and mentoring others
· Although a PT degree from an accredited physical therapy program is applicable, a degree that strongly complements rehabilitation sciences (Public Health, Neuroscience, Biomechanics, bioengineering, etc) will be considered, especially if there is evidence of teaching, practice, and research experience
· If a DPT, a minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience in physical therapy practice.
· If a DPT, licensure, or eligibility to obtain licensure as a physical therapist in Texas.
· Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
· Established a research program with current/recent funding that aligns with the department, college, and university research priorities and strategic plan
· Active participation in professional activities at the local, state, and/or national level
· Verbally commits to:
- Working collaboratively and professionally with individuals from diverse communities and cultures within and outside the University
- Providing and maintaining a respectful and nurturing learning environment that promotes evidence-informed practice
- Modeling professionalism inside and outside of the classroom setting
Preferred Qualifications
· If a physical therapist, ABPTS Certification is desired
· Biomechanics or Neuroscience research experience with an ability to manage motion capture, force plate, and wearable sensor technology to capture data
