Assistant Professor - Physical Therapy

The Programs in Physical Therapy, Columbia University (Columbia) welcomes applications for a full-time (12-Month) faculty position with emphasis on research and mentoring of post-professional doctoral students. Columbia is a research-one institution with a strong academic and clinical environment. Columbia University has a post-professional Doctor of Education in Movement Science (Physical Therapy) joint program with Teachers College. The Programs in Physical Therapy

The Programs are located within the Department of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine in the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons (VP&S) of Columbia University. The program is located on the Columbia University Irving Medical Center campus in Washington Heights, New York City along with Medicine, Dentistry, Public Health and Nursing. The 16 full-time faculty are nationally and internationally recognized in varied areas of clinical and research expertise. Our adjunct faculty of academicians, scholars, and clinicians from NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital (NYP), Weill Cornell Medicine affiliates, and the New York City environs, regularly contribute to the DPT program. The Columbia Programs in Physical Therapy has a highly regarded Doctor of Physical Therapy program, in addition to a Clinical Residency in Orthopedic Physical Therapy, Performing Arts Fellowship, and three physical therapy Faculty Practices.

Research Responsibilities

The successful candidate is primarily expected to build research capacity and expertise in musculoskeletal physical therapy and/or exercise and maintain an active funded research agenda. The candidate is expected to actively seek internal or external funding and enhance the didactic and research mentorship for post-professional Doctor of Education (Physical Therapy) degree students. The candidate would explore opportunities to utilize our interprofessional research laboratory and collaborate with faculty colleagues across the CUIMC campus.

Teaching Responsibilities

The successful candidate will primarily mentor students and teach in the Doctor of Education in Movement Science (Physical Therapy) program. In addition, depending on their interest and experience the candidate will engage in the DPT and Clinical Residency programs. The candidate will participate in program, university, interprofessional, and community professional service.

Clinical Responsibilities

Candidates must fulfill requirements for clinical credentialling at NYP/CUIMC. Opportunities exist for clinical teaching or practice at NYP/CUIMC and/or the Columbia University Faculty Practices/ColumbiaDoctors.
