Assistant Professor - Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy is seeking to hire an Assistant Professor of Philosophy specializing in the History of Ancient Philosophy.

This is a tenure-track position specializing in the History of Ancient Philosophy. The department also has teaching needs in Environmental Philosophy, Feminist Philosophy, History of African/Africana Philosophy, History of Latin American Philosophy, and Philosophy of Emerging Technology.

All faculty teach undergraduate courses in the University Core Curriculum and upper-division courses for philosophy majors, engage in research and publication, and perform departmental, college, and university service. Normal teaching load is 3 courses per semester.

The position, which begins August 2023, is part of a cluster hire across the College of Arts and Sciences, forming a new multidisciplinary initiative focused on the topic of “Race and Social Justice” as a line of inquiry in teaching and/or research. The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a PhD in philosophy or its equivalent by start of appointment.
  • Teach effectively.
  • Have an emerging record of scholarship.
  • Serve the department, college, and university effectively.
  • Promote the Catholic, Jesuit educational mission of the university.
  • Participate actively in a new multidisciplinary initiative focused upon the topic of “Race and Social Justice” as a line of inquiry in teaching and/or research.
