The Department of Family and Community Medicine is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Clinical to join the actively evolving Palliative Medicine program within the UCHealth system. The palliative medicine program at UCHealth is a growing interdisciplinary service.  We are looking to expand from services at University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC) to West Chester Hospital (WCH). The provider will offer inpatient consult services at WCH and at UCMC. They will provide palliative care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and further the COM mission through excellence in education, innovation and clinical care in the field of palliative medicine.

Clinical Care

• Provide direct patient care services at assigned palliative care sites.
• Share on-call responsibilities including overnight call and weekend work days.
• Attend palliative care team meetings.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the clinical sites.
• Participate in UCMC palliative care committees and expansion initiatives.
• Serve on hospital committees as needed.
• Collaborate with and provide supervision as indicated to Advanced Practice Providers when concurrently on clinical service.

Teaching:

• Supervise and teach learners on the palliative care elective.
• Provide learner feedback, written and verbal.
• Contribute to a positive learning environment for learners.
• Give lectures as part of the palliative care education series.

Scholarship: All care faculty are expected to contribute to scholarship, including any of the following: curriculum development; research; regional and national presentations; publications; peer review. On average, each core faculty member is anticipated to complete two scholarly activities per year.

The skills to provide palliative care for a diverse population of all ages in both the inpatient and ambulatory setting. Required skills include:

• Communication skills to lead family meetings, goals of care discussions, and end-of-life discussions with cultural humility.
• Complete psychosocial and spiritual assessments in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
• Manage pain and non-pain symptoms that accompany serious illness.
• Provide end-of-life care.

Understanding of hospice eligibility criteria and the ability to appropriately refer patients.
 

Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team and provide consultative care in collabo-ration with primary medical teams. This is accomplished through:

• Providing a supportive team environment through expressed enthusiasm, approacha-bility, and respect for all members of the healthcare team.
• Encouraging all team members to participate in the development of treatment plans.
• Respect for differing opinions.
• Openness to feedback from all colleagues.

Experience precepting learners and providing coaching for goals of care and end-of-life discussions and family meetings is preferred.
Ability to obtain an unrestricted Ohio Medical License and DEA license.
Board Certification or Eligibility in Hospice and Palliative Medicine or a minimum of 10 years experience providing hospice or palliative medicine services.
