Position Description:

The University of Louisville Libraries seeks enthusiastic early-career candidates for the position of Strategic Research Initiatives Librarian (Tenure-Track). As a member of Ekstrom Library's Research Assistance and Instruction Department, the successful candidate will build collaborative and embedded relationships with faculty across academic disciplines and develop targeted programming supporting advanced research needs and promoting relevant library resources and services. In particular, the position will contribute to the ongoing implementation and expansion of the department's enhanced Scholar Services model, as well as serve as the primary liaison to the College of Education and Human Development, offering additional support for other academic units and departments as needed. Research Assistance and Instruction is currently engaged in a strategic transformation process with a two-pronged focus: building stronger and more integrated relationships with researchers through our new Scholar Services model and advancing the university's student success efforts through collaborative programs centering on educational equity, engaged learning, and career readiness. The Strategic Research Initiatives Librarian will work with us in the development and implementation of these and other initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide expert guidance on processes, trends, and opportunities for embedded research services, including advanced literature searches and systematic reviews.
  • Collaborate with various library partners to develop and deliver interdisciplinary research services for faculty, graduate students, and other researchers, with an initial emphasis on integrating RAI's latest initiative, Scholar Services, within Education, Humanities, and Social Science subject areas.
  • Seek out and build innovative relationships with academic units and programs and broaden the library's presence and influence throughout the campus and community, focusing in particular on programs that highlight the utility and impact of library resources within the research lifecycle.
  • Serve as library liaison for the College of Education and Human Development and support Humanities subject areas as needed; provide research and curricular support to build and maintain relationships with faculty and to remain informed of university research needs.
  • Assist library colleagues with the creation, implementation, marketing, and assessment of programming, activities, and projects designed to facilitate research engagement.
  • Participate in scholarship and professional service activities as a tenure-track faculty member.
Required Qualifications 
  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program (or international equivalent) in library or information science.
  • Education and/or experience in providing research support and instructional services in academic libraries.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success and inclusive practices in higher education as well as demonstrated ability to collaborate successfully with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and support organizational innovation in academic libraries.
  • Potential to meet the University Libraries criteria for promotion and tenure.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with the current strategic landscape of academic libraries.
  • Experience with planning student engagement events and activities.
  • Experience supporting faculty with research and information literacy initiatives.
  • Experience with Springshare products (LibGuides, LibConnect, etc.).
Additional Information

This is an entry-level, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor with a 12-month annual contract. The minimum starting salary for Instructor is $47,000 per year. Entry rank and salary are negotiated at the time of offer and are dependent on the experience, professional achievements, and assigned rank of the successful candidate. The successful candidate will receive a comprehensive benefits package, an annual vacation of 22 working days, and support for professional development. Promotion and tenure require demonstration of scholarship and successfully satisfying other criteria.
