Position Description:

The School of Music is seeking a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Voice to join our internationally recognized faculty for Fall 2024. Candidates should demonstrate a successful record of teaching, recruitment, performance, personal integrity, and vision for the future of the voice program. In addition to a strong background in Western Classical voice instruction, special consideration will be given to those with expertise in vocology, voice research, and/or experience in contemporary commercial music styles, music theatre, or other Non-Western Classical voice styles. 


Primary responsibilities include teaching individual lessons and recruiting voice students. Additional duties will include serving on recital and exam committees, advising DMA thesis projects, participating in departmental and university service, teaching required courses in the program and those that align with the candidate’s area of expertise, and additional duties assigned in consultation with the Director of the School of Music.


Candidates should establish and maintain a record of research in the field of vocology/vocal pedagogy and/or maintain an active performance schedule on and off campus. Preference will be given to applicants who have already established a national reputation as a performer, teacher, or researcher.

This may include, but is not limited to recordings of recitals, stage productions, masterclasses, and singing-related presentations. Online links must be embedded in a word document and should be accessible by direct link through domains such as YouTube or Vimeo. In the event that audio or video examples are not available, the candidate should provide a statement of explanation.

    • In addition, candidates may submit examples of their voice-science-related research or practitioner articles demonstrating scholarly impact

Education Requirement:

  • Master’s degree in Music in hand by the start date

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated track record of successful voice instruction 

  • Evidence of creative activity and/or research as demonstrated through performances and/or presentations/publications

  • Demonstrated experience promoting an inclusive culture in the workforce and academic environment

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Voice, Vocal Pedagogy, Vocology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

  • A proven track record for recruiting and retaining voice students

  • Ability to build bridges between singers, music therapists, music educators, laryngologists, speech language pathologists, and other members of the voice community

  • Demonstrated track record and/or productivity in vocology and voice-science-related studies

  • Demonstrated track record teaching in contemporary commercial music styles, music theatre, and/or other non-Western Classical vocal styles

  • Commitment to community engagement and work with youth and community organizations
