Description of Work Unit
The School of Music, Theatre and Dance (SMTD) has 36 tenured and tenure-track faculty as well as 40 adjunct faculty. There are currently over 550 students in SMTD, with 311 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in music degree programs.
The University Center for the Arts is a nationally recognized state-of the art 350,000 square foot facility, that includes a 550-seat concert hall, a 275-seat organ and chamber music recital hall, a 320-seat thrust theatre, a 100-seat black box theatre, a 200-seat dance theatre, dedicated rehearsal, production, and research spaces, along with classrooms, labs, and practice rooms.Colorado State University (CSU) is a land grant institution with a student enrollment of approximately 30,000 students in over 150 programs, and a faculty numbering 1,700. The College of Liberal Arts, within which the school is located, is the largest college in the University.

Position Summary
The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance at Colorado State University invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Professor of Voice. This is a tenure-track, nine-month appointment, beginning August 16th, 2023. Primary responsibilities include teaching applied voice to undergraduate and graduate students, lyric diction and team-teaching the innovative Freshman Voice Studio curriculum. Other teaching assignments as assigned, according to the needs of the school and the candidate’s experience and credentials. Recruit outstanding vocal students for the vocal, choral and opera programs. The successful candidate will be a part of a dynamic and collaborative faculty environment and will demonstrate the ability to collaborate on many levels.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Doctorate degree in Vocal Performance OR Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and 5 years significant professional performance experience (sustained career in vocal performance of at least 5 years that must include documented performances at regional, national, and international venues, including, but not limited to, “A” level opera houses as well as significant concert halls, recital halls, theaters, etc.).
  • Documented college teaching experience within college studio voice and classroom teaching.
  • Evidence of excellence in vocal performance artistry and the potential for continued advancement as a performer or scholar.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and embrace a team teaching model and student centered philosophy.
  • Tenor, Baritone or Bass-Baritone preferred.
  • Experience teaching diction (English, Italian, French and German).
  • Experience teaching in related areas: Song Literature and Opera History.
