Position Description
Advertised Job Summary | The Department of Statistics at the University of South Carolina, Columbia invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions. These positions are part of a college and university-wide initiative to advance data science by using an interdisciplinary approach. Applicants with research expertise in any area of statistics will be considered, as well as those with expertise in modern data science. Appointment for these positions will commence on August 16, 2024. The Department currently consists of twelve tenured/tenure-track faculty and seven full-time instructors. Current research areas of the faculty include survival and reliability analysis, Bayesian statistics, latent variable methods, item response theory and psychometrics, semiparametric and nonparametric inference, group and pooled testing, highly-structured or high-dimensional data, statistical learning, functional data, scalable and post-selection inference, and statistical genetics. The department has about 35 full-time graduate students and offers PhD, MS, and BS degrees. Required Education and Experience | Applicants for this position must have a PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a closely related field by the start date of employment and must provide evidence of potential to be an outstanding researcher and an excellent teacher. |
