The Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites applications for two nine-month, full-time, tenure-track faculty assistant professor positions in statistics. Principal duties include research, teaching, and outreach with an emphasis on statistical learning, Bayesian statistics, response surface modeling, nonparametric inference, causal inference, statistical design, spatial statistics, time series analysis, or related area. Candidates will join a diverse and active team of Mathematics and Statistics faculty members supporting the Ph.D. in Computational Science and Statistics, Master’s degree in Statistics, Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Data Science, and Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics.  Exceptional candidates may be eligible for additional funding provided by the CAPITAL Services Statistical Learning Scholar position. RESPONSIBILITIES:  
Responsibilities include research, teaching and advising in undergraduate and graduate programs, and service and outreach to the campus and the region. Typical duties include teaching three to six credits per semester of undergraduate and graduate courses.  Research duties include developing and maintaining a regionally relevant research program, developing external collaboration and outreach, and pursuing external research funding and graduate student support. Excellence in teaching and enthusiasm for mentoring students is expected.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS include: 
  • Ph.D. in statistics, data science, mathematics, or closely related field by the starting date of the appointment. 
  • Broad understanding of statistical theory and practice with research focus in statistical learning, Bayesian statistics, causal inference, nonparametric inference, response surface modeling, spatial statistics, statistical design, time series analysis, or related area.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills.
  • Potential to be an effective teacher and mentor.
  • Potential to develop and maintain externally funded scholarly research and publication.
