CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, LONG BEACH College of Liberal Arts Department of Sociology Tenure-Track Position Opening Recruitment Number: 2654 Position: Assistant Professor of Sociology (Urban Sociology and Policy) Effective Date: August 17, 2022 (Fall Semester) Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience Required Qualifications: • Ph.D. in Sociology or a related field at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2022 • Specialization in the area of Urban Sociology and Policy • Demonstrated potential for successful teaching at the college level • Demonstrated potential for continued development of research, scholarly, and creative activities in the area of Urban Sociology and Policy • Demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse student population Preferred Qualifications: • Evidence of scholarship in the area of Urban Sociology and Policy • Successful college-level teaching in one or more of the following topics: Urban Sociology, Social Policy, Urban Communities, Urban Policy, Quantitative/Qualitative Research Methods, Policy Analysis and Evaluation • Demonstrated ability to mentor students and supervise research • Evidence of service in an academic institution or the community • Experience of successfully working with populations demographically and socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body Duties: • Teach courses such as Poverty and Social Policy; Racism, Power and Inequality; Sociology of the Family; Sociology of Gender; Youth, Policing and Justice; International Social Conflict; Social Stratification; Quantitative or Qualitative Research Methods.
