Job Description
The Department of Social Sciences at the University of the Virgin Islands invites applications for a full-time position in the Social Sciences at the rank of Assistant Professor to start in August 2022. Demonstrated success or evidence of potential to excel in teaching and advising undergraduates, ongoing scholarly productivity, and institutional and departmental service is required. Candidates will be expected to teach a multidisciplinary, Caribbean-focused introductory social science course that is part of UVI’s Freshman Year Program, and courses in their specialty area. Candidate will also supervise senior capstone and other independent student research projects as necessary.  Preference will be given to candidates whose teaching and scholarly interests are relevant to the Caribbean and/or research and teaching expertise related to Africana Studies and the Black Diaspora.

Required Qualifications
An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in a social science discipline is required. The area of specialization is open. Exceptional ABD candidates may also be considered, but a Ph.D. must be earned by time of appointment. Must possess a record of or potential for achievement in teaching, academic research and service.
