Job Summary:

Langston University is seeking a full time assistant professor of sociology in the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities. The starting date will be Fall 2020.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Faculty member must be prepared to fulfill the responsibilities of teaching, scholarship and service to the university. The faculty member will teach a minimum of 12 hours per semester in lower and upper division sociology courses as well as criminal justice courses. Faculty member will provide mentorship and academic advising to undergraduate students. Faculty member should be skilled in the application of technology to enhance teaching and learning. Faculty member will actively seek grants and other funding to help strengthen the department's research program and provide student support. Faculty member will participate in departmental, school and university projects and committees. The faculty member will play an active role in shaping the future of the social sciences and humanities department through departmental planning and development.

Education & Experience

Position Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in sociology from and regionally or nationally accredited university is preferred; master's degree candidates strongly to apply. College teaching experience preferred. The preferred candidate will also possess effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Interest in participating in an active research in social science, which could involve  undergraduate students is highly desirable. The preferred candidate must have the ability to demonstrate se of technology in the classroom and must be willing and able to use technology relevant to specifically assigned courses. Online teaching experience, willingness to teach online, and the ability to communicate well and employ teaching methods that engage student from traditionally underrepresented populations will be a plus.
