Job Description

The Department of Psychology at Fort Hays State University is seeking applications for the position of a tenure-track Assistant Professor of School Psychology. The ideal candidate will be excited to provide instruction for both on-campus and virtual courses. Since the majority of our graduate students are in school and clinical psychology, the ideal candidate will also value the importance of applied programs. This position is located on the campus of FHSU located in Hays, Kansas.

The FHSU School Psychology program provides innovative online programming to help address the prescient school psychologist shortages across the country. Our online program in school psychology is innovative for the field. Thus, the Department of Psychology is seeking an assistant professor who is excited and passionate about the future of school psychologist training, which may require new approaches that depart from time honored and traditional methods in the discipline.

Job Duties
Teaching responsibilities are 24 credit hours per year (12 per semester) with a variety of on-campus and virtual courses. Scholarship responsibilities include maintaining an active research agenda that involves students. Research and scholarly activities resulting in presentations and publications are expected. Service to the department, university, local community, and discipline at large is expected.

Coordinator Duties
Assist the Program Director in managing the school psychology program, which includes, but is not limited to:
•    Student recruitment
•    Coordinating with practicum and internship sites  
•    Creating current and engaging school psychology coursework

•    Advising and mentoring school psychology graduate students

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
•    A degree of Ed.S. with an emphasis in school psychology
•    Licensed in Kansas or home state as a school psychologist, or have the credential of NCSP

Preferred Qualifications
•    Ph.D. or Ed.D. in School Psychology or related field (degree must be conferred by date of appointment)
•    Demonstrated effectiveness in designing and teaching on-campus and online classes
•    Record of scholarly activity and service to the larger community

•    Relevant experience as a school psychologist in a school or community setting

•    Strong verbal and written communication skills

•    Experience in accreditation and assessment

 Additional Qualifications
In addition to having expertise in school psychology, the competitive candidate will also:
•    Highly detail oriented and organized
•    Punctual with student concerns and departmental requests

•    Experience with Quality Matters
•    Value innovation
•    Collegial

The Department of Psychology has 13 full-time faculty members and approximately 600 undergraduate majors and graduate students. The Department offers a BA and BS in Psychology; three M.S. degrees with specialization in clinical, experimental, and school psychology; and a school psychology Education Specialist degree (Ed.S.). The department has a tradition of involving undergraduate students in research, and the school psychology program enjoys close working relationships with local school districts.
