The Department of Literature, Languages, Writing, and Humanities in the Maxwell Becton College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Rhetoric & Composition employed primarily on the Florham Campus at 285 Madison Avenue, Madison NJ 07940.

The successful hire will accept a minimum 3-year renewable contract to serve as Florham Campus Director of the College Writing Program, an 12-month position which carries additional adjusted release time. (The Florham Campus Director co-directs the College Writing Program as a whole with the Metropolitan Campus Director and both report to the Chair of the Department of Literature, Languages, Writing, and Humanities.) The Florham Director will be responsible for scheduling and staffing College Writing courses on the Florham Campus, training and mentoring full- and part-time faculty who teach in the program, overseeing placement of the incoming class, co-designing curriculum, and other duties typical of a writing program administrator. 
Required Qualifications:
Evidence of scholarly accomplishment or promise. Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level. Experience providing innovative, quality online instruction.
 
Significant experience (ideally, 10+ years) as a writing program administrator. Significant experience hiring, observing, evaluating, training, and mentoring adjunct faculty for all levels of first-year writing. Significant experience with writing placement for incoming students. Experience collaborating with other campus offices in support of students in writing courses. Experience designing curriculum and co-curricular enrichment (e.g. a campus book program) and conducting outcomes assessment for first-year writing.
 
Requirements of the position: The position of Assistant Professor as such carries a 4/4 course load (3/3 the first year) with the opportunity to apply annually for a release of up to one course per semester for research. Teaching will be primarily first-year writing, with some opportunity for other teaching per qualifications and the needs of the department. Service and scholarship are expected per the FDU Faculty Handbook to the standard expressed in the tenure and promotion guidelines of Becton College and the Department of Literature, Language, Writing, and Humanities as they either explicitly do or reasonably would apply to the field of Rhetoric & Composition or to writing studies in general.
