Assistant Professor of Research- Department of Cell Biology

Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.
We have an exciting opportunity for a High Voltage Electrician who supports Facilities Management's goal of providing consistent, cost effective, and reliable maintenance and service. Electricians perform journey level installation, repair, and maintenance work on electrical systems and equipment in buildings, including emergency backup systems, alarms, and life-support equipment. The work is with high voltage electrical systems. They receive direction from the supervisor and perform duties at the job site, receiving some guidance. They can independently determine methods of accomplishing work orders and carry out all phases, but will have more assistance when assigned larger projects. Electricians may work individually or as a team with limited supervision.

  • Install and maintain electrical equipment, components and lighting fixtures with proper wiring and material. This involves working with 15kV, 4160V, and 600V.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and wiring for Academic and Health System electricial systems.
  • Specify, estimate, and install equipment, wiring, and systems in accordance with applicable standards and requirements.
  • Lay out and locate areas to cut or drill holes and openings for installation of sleeve or inserts for passage and support for pipe, fittings, and wire.
  • Respond to emergency requests.
  • Inform customers of job status, reasons for and duration of expected delays, as well as refer customers to the supervisor when appropriate.
  • Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, such as OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations, the National Electrical Code, and The Joint Commission.
  • Assist other trades and become familiar with various equipment and sequence of operation.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties such as snow and ice removal and special events setups, as assigned by the supervisor.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: Four years of experience.
Licensure: Journey level electrical license.

Selected candidates will be required to complete all required background checks prior to the first day of employment.

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $20.00 - $23.55 per hour {$41,600 - $49,000 per year}.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee must be able to variously sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands-on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks).  The employee must have normal vision and hearing (correctable), and for some areas of employment, color vision and sense of smell.
